December Book

A Christmas Carol
Like most of Dickens’ stories, A Christmas Carol depicts his childhood fear of poverty and impoverishment. A Christmas Carol is regarded as one of the most influential Christmas stories in the history of English literature and centers around Ebenezer Scrooge. He is haunted by the ghosts of his past, while the snow-covered London celebrates Christmas around him, surrounded by their families. His love for money has alienated him from the society and made him a bitter recluse. The story revolves around the life-changing events of the night before Christmas when Ebenezer is forced to confront the past that he had buried in the bottom of his conscience.
The heart-warming story will take the readers on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, and offer a correct interpretation of the haunting realities of the medieval Victorian times. The lamp-lit dramatic setting and the diverse range of emotions of each character create a multi-faceted dimension, which allows the reader to immerse themselves into the emotions of each one of the characters. The main protagonist of the story, Ebenezer Scrooge, is a miserly old person who values wealth above all else. His well-practiced chorus of “Bah! Humbug!” is illustrated throughout the first part of the book.
By rejecting the seasonal goodwill and cheer of Christmas, he prefers to stay surrounded by his wealth and is looked down upon by his employee, Bob Cratchit, who although lacks financial comfort, is optimistic about the blessing of the Christmas holiday. The night before Christmas takes on a supernatural turn when a ghost from the past knocks down the doors to the sub-consciousness of Ebenezer Scrooge. Along with his dead business partner, Jacob Marley, the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future take him on a transformative journey throughout his life. The readers will greatly enjoy the principal events of his childhood, the humiliating tales of his teenage life and his nostalgic feelings for the poor, which combines together to change him forever.
